English First Division to Barclays Premier League

In the early 1990’s, Liverpool were ruling the English division. The Reds won the English first division eighth times in their history. However, in 1991 a revolution happen in English football. The new Sports channel Sky was introduced.

The Sky Sports team decided to make English Premier League a world spectacle. The beautiful game will now be seen by millions of people outside Europe.

The English first division then became Barclays Premier League as new sponsors invested heavily in this new project of Sky.

Now, we come back to the football. After nearly being sacked, Sir Alex Ferguson starts to develop young footballers from Man United academy.

Barclays Premier League Maiden Season

In the maiden season of the Premier League in 1992, Sir Alex Ferguson managed to prove his doubters wrong by winning the Premier League with young players. The great Scottish manager will go on to win the League in the next season also.

However, in 1994/95 something crazy happen just like in 2016. Blackburn Rovers managed to pip Sir Alex’s Man United to the Premier League top spot. But in 2016, Leicester City did not had such strong opposition to beat.

Man United Takes Over in Late 90’s

Sir Alex Ferguson found the formula to win multiple trophies at Old Trafford. Man United trophies list keeps growing and Premier League was among the others. Sir Alex became the first English team manager to win the Treble (Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup) in the same season.

In 1996, Arsène Wenger arrives from Nagoya Grampus Eight. The French manager will manage to rival the dominance of Sir Alex Ferguson. Arsène Wenger wins the Premier League in his second season in charge (1997/98).

As the seasons goes on, Sir Alex Ferguson got back on top again. Then it was a face to face battle between these two managers in early 2000’s. As for the season of 2003/04, Arsenal did the unthinkable. They became the Premier League winners without losing any match in the season (The Invincibles).

That happiness of Arsène Wenger did not last for long as after beating Sir Alex then came his most toughest competitor.

José Mourinho landed in the Premier League as European Champions

José Mourinho beats Sir Alex’s Man United in the semi-finals of the Champions League. Then his FC Porto team goes on to win the Champions League against AS Monaco in 2004.

During the summer, new Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich decides to sign the Portuguese manager from FC Porto. During his first season, José Mourinho just walk over the Premier League and won his first league in England.

Chelsea became the Premier League winners with most points (95) in 2004. He did not stop there either as Chelsea won the Premier League again the next season.

The Return of Sir Alex Ferguson Magic

José Mourinho was winning almost everything in England but the owner Abramovich wanted to win the Champions League. During the time, Sir Alex Ferguson build a team that consists names like Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Nemanja Vidic.

After two years of dominance, José Mourinho saw Sir Alex Ferguson side get back on top. Man United won the league three times in a row for the second time in 9 years (99,00,01) and (06,07,08). Mourinho were sacked by Chelsea and Arsène Wenger couldn’t do much as Arsenal were constructing a new stadium.

The Rise Of The Noisy Neighbours – Manchester City

Fast forward to the season 2011/12. Man United is eight points ahead of neighbours Man City. The neighbours Manchester City are bought by Qatari billionaires. They have a project in place. Roberto Mancini is brought in by the new owners.

Sir Alex’s Man United have a free run at the Premier League title once again. However, this time a miracle will happen.

Sergio Agüero becomes a Manchester City legend by winning the league in the last five seconds of the last match. Man United have already won their match vs Sunderland at Stadium Of Light.

Man City is currently drawing 2-2 with QPR who is now safe as Bolton Wanderers have already being relegated. The last move of the match, Mario ‘Why Always Me’ Balotelli gets the ball, Agüero makes a run into the box.

Balotelli slide the ball into Agüero, the Argentine smash the ball in the right corner of the net. And, GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

Manchester City wins the Premier League for the first time in 44 years against rival champions neighbours Man United.

Robin Van Persie Swap Arsenal For Man United

The most clinical transfer ever made in the Premier League. Sir Alex just lost the league in the last seconds of the season. Comes the summer transfer window, he go on to sign rival Arsène Wenger best player.

Robin Van Persie arrives at Man United with one objective, to win the Premier League. The Dutch striker scores in his first match for Man United. However, when the derby Man United vs Man City comes around in that season, he scored the winner (2-3) for Man United.

The cherry of the cake is the splendid goal scored by the Dutch striker against Aston Villa at Old Trafford. Wayne Rooney pass from the halfway line to Van Persie.

Van Persie sees the goalkeeper off his lines. He smash a volley and hit the back of the net. Robin Van Persie ended the match with the ball having scored a hat-trick. He also won the Golden Boot that year for Man United.

Sir Alex Ferguson Retires

The greatest managers of the Premier League era retires at the end of the season 2012/13. The Scottish manager won thirteen Premier League titles during his helm at Old Trafford. Man United is lost in the shadow after Sir Alex Ferguson retirement.

Chelsea appoints José Mourinho again. The Portugues manager will win the Premier League title again in 2014/15 with an amazing talent in his team named Eden Hazard.

Leicester City – The Miracle Of The Millennium

Leicester City battles relegation in 2015 to finally secure their place among the elite in the last matches. At this point and time no one knows Jamie Vardy, N’golo Kanté or Riyad Mahrez.

After José Mourinho in 2015, another former Chelsea manager works his magic. Claudio Ranieri is winning matches as if his team is playing in the second division. Only Tottenham have managed to stay close the Leicester City in the league.

Leicester City goes on and on and on. They even beat Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool during the season. The only two top six team they didn’t beat was Man United and Arsenal. The Foxes drew 1-1 both times when they faced Louis Van Gaal’s Man United that season.

After the battle of the bridge opposing Chelsea vs Tottenham, Leicester City were crowned Premier League champions. Eden Hazard once again played a big part in winning the league but this time it was for Leicester City.

Leicester City became the 24th English club to win the Premier League. The Foxes also won their first-ever Premier League title in their 132-year history.

Pep Guardiola – The Mastermind Arrives

Man City is going to get back at the top as Sir Alex Ferguson has now retires and José Mourinho at Real Madrid. In 2016, Man City announce the arrival of Pep Guardiola from Bayern Münich.

The Spanish coach is world famous for his tactical plans during matches. His team plays tiki-taka football. Quick passing and moves towards the opposition goal in a flash.

During his first season in charge, Pep Guardiola have difficulty to adapt to English football. His team don’t have the physical aspects to challenge to big teams. Man City even get beaten 4-0 by Everton during the season.

Next season Pep Guardiola creates a new team with quick players with great technical abilities. The Man City of Pep Guardiola will become Premier League winners with most points (100) in 2017/18. The Mancunians became the first ever team to reach the hundreds points in first division of English football.

Introducing the Premier League with heavy metal football. Jürgen Klopp revolutionizes English football with his method and manage to build a title challenge against Pep’s Man City. Liverpool is waiting to win the Premier League for 29 years now. The Reds are ahead of their rival Man City during Christmas period.

The gap can be increased by Liverpool to 10 points. However, Klopp team failed to do the job against Leicester City. Comes January, Man City beats Liverpool at home and close the gap to four points.

Man City will finally win the Premier League on the final day of the season as Liverpool finishes second. Jürgen Klopp did manage to win the Champions League though. Liverpool remains the only team in the top five teams of the Premier League yet to be Premier League winners.
